62.5ul Microreactor Chip 2 Input The Asia Microreactors are chemically resistant, transparent, robust flow reactors for solution phase chemistry and offer a wide temperature and pressure range. The design results in extremely fast and reproducible mixing, rapid heat transfer and minimized back pressure due to flow. The microreactor chip is supplied in a holder which enables a number of benefits such as quick connection of fluid pipes via the Chip Header (2100147), physical durability, and thermal insulation. The holder also allows the microreactor to be heated or cooled by clipping it into the Asia Chip Climate Controller or Asia Heater. Three different reactor volumes (62.5?l, 250?l and 1000?l) are available giving a range of reaction times (the residence time of the chemicals within the reactor changes with volume assuming the flow rate remains constant). Each volume comes in either a 2 input or 3 input version. Chip blanking plugs (2100210) can be placed into the Chip Header to reduce number of inputs used. Note that the output of one microreactor can be connected to the input of a second reactor to perform sequential reactions. Specification: • Wetted materials: Glass or quartz • Temperature range: -20°C to +250°C • Maximum pressure: 30 bar (10 bar for 1000?l Microreactor Chips) -

Chip Header The Chip Header enables alignment and connection of all the input and output pipes to the microreactor chip in seconds. The header is secured to the microreactor chip by the two knurled thumb screws. FFKM O rings are used to seal between the input/output pipes and the glass surface resulting in a chemically resistant, reliable, “zero” dead volume seal rated to 20 bar (300psi). -

Chip Header Blanking Plug Inputs to microreactor chips can be sealed off using the Chip Header Blanking Plug. This enables a 3 input microreactor chip to also be used with 1 or 2 inputs and a 2 input microreactor chip to used with just 1 input. The blanking plug inserts into the Chip Header (2100147) in place of an input pipe and should be used with a Chip Header Seal (2110721). -
Africa HPLC Pump The HPLC Pump Module enables the user to perform isocratic or binary gradient elution at flow rates from 0.1 ml/min up to 2ml/min. The module consists of a pair of high pressure pumps fed from an inline degasser, that output into a static mixer and then into a pulse damper with integral pressure sensor. The system monitors pressure to ensure correct operation of the pumps, or to stop them in the event of a pressure threshold being exceeded (a user variable). -
Africa Sampler and Dilutor The Sampler and Dilutor is the interface between the Synthesis system and the Analysis system. It has a 6-port loop-valve with PTFE based internals (for high chemical resistance) that samples from the reactor output, combined with a dilution unit that loads diluted sample into a high-pressure (stainless steel), 6-port loop-valve for injection into the HPLC system. The dilution pump can provide dilution of the reaction stream of between 5:1 up to 250:1 The unit also has the ability to monitor an input signal, or output a busy signal/ trigger to third-party devices. -
Africa Solvent Store This module is a location to store solvent supply and waste bottles, and is designed to house two, 1 litre bottles for HPLC solvent, one 2l bottle for waste, and one 500ml bottle for sample transfer and dilution solvent. There is also space to store sample vials or other small vessels if desired. The module liner is made from polypropylene and may be autoclaved if contaminated. The module has no active or passive control associated with it. -
Africa UV Detector The UV Detector is a single, variable wavelength unit and can operate at any wavelength between 190nm and 400nm. It uses a Deuterium lamp and has a 5 millimetre flowcell (12 microlitre illuminated volume) fitted as standard. The flowcell may be plumbed either way, though it is recommended that the lower fitting is the inlet for bubble prevention. -

Africa FLLEX The FLLEX module enables Flow Liquid-Liquid Extraction for the AFRICA automated flow chemistry system. It can be used in synthesis for post reaction work-up or can be used in LogP/LogD studies. For synthesis, the module is normally connected after a reaction stage so that the output stream from the reaction chip is contacted with an immiscible wash stream. After contacting the two streams are separated in the FLLEX before being collected or passing onto other processes. The liquid-liquid extraction or liquid-contacting process results in removal of unwanted compounds from the reaction mixture. The module consists of a contactor, a separator, two optical sensors to monitor output stream purity and two back pressure regulators to accurately control fluid pressure. -
Africa PCM Basic The Product Collection Modules enable individual reactions/samples to be automatically collected in tubes, vials etc. Product Collection consists of a PCM (Product Collection Module) and either a Gilson FC203b (smaller) or FC204 (larger) fraction collector. Together, the product collection modules allow individual reactions/samples to be automatically collected in tubes, vials etc. and unwanted solvent flow to be diverted to waste. It is possible to choose to collect only the centre/heart of the reaction (maximum concentration/purity) or collect the diffusion/dispersion areas as well (for maximum recovery). The Gilson FC203b or FC204 is customised to enable a back pressure reguator and selection valve to be fitted to the collection head. This allows the system to be pressurised and therefore controlled up to the collection valve -
Africa Pressurisation module The Pressurisation module serves three major functions: avoiding bubbles in the flow reactor, inert gas blanket over inputs and enabling superheating of the reaction (by pressurisation). The Pressurization module supplies inert gas pressurisation of reagent/solvent inputs to the Reagent Pumps and back pressure regulation of the reactor output. The input bottles shown can be pressurised to 1 bar, avoiding bubble formation when aspirating and pumping. The back pressure regulator (BPR) allows the reactor to be pressurised up to at least 7 bar. This not only allows reactions to be superheated 60°C - 120°C above their normal boiling point but also avoids outgassing. -
Africa Control Software Including PC The Africa software allows the user to enter only "chemist familiar" terms, e.g. concentration, equivalents, time and temperature rather than flow rates. The Africa software automatically detects which modules are connected. The user can select a predefined task or create a new one with a drag and drop interface. Each experiment is run automatically by the software and data is logged. When using the HPLC modules, a sample of each reaction is automatically taken, diluted and injected onto the HPLC for analysis. When the experiment has completed, reports and graphs can be printed and data exported to .csv files. When using the AFRICA HPLC modules, the chromatograms can be displayed, integrated and tabulated. -
