Equilibration – As much as necessary, as little as possible

This question often arises when thinking about equilibration of the column after a gradient run. If the (re)equilibration time is too short, the risk of non-reproducible results occurs. If it is too long, time and solvents are wasted.

In this Expert Tip, you will learn how to estimate the optimum equilibration volume by calculating the column volume. In addition, a practical example is used to demonstrate the effects of different equilibration volumes. For more information about equilibration, you can download the Expert Tip here.

Bioinert YMC-Triart metal-free (U)HPLC columns are nominated for Wiley Analytical Science Award 2022!

A number of analytes are able to interact with conventional inert column hardware materials such as stainless steel or titanium. The inert YMC-Triart metal-free (U)HPLC columns are fully biocompatible due to their PEEK lined stainless steel column bodies and the use of PEEK frits. You can achieve excellent peak shapes and reliable recoveries for critical substances such as biomolecules. The prevention of carryover makes them an ideal choice for highly sensitive LC/MS analyses.

For these reasons, the bioinert YMC-Triart (U)HPLC columns have been nominated for the Wiley Analytical Science Award 2022 in the category Separation, Lab automation and Equipment. Scientists worldwide are being invited to have their say. You can cast your vote for YMC’s bioinert (U)HPLC columns here (Voting closes on September 30th, 2021).
