Silica is widely used for various purification and filtration processes. In many cases, irregular silica materials are used and then discarded after a single use. But is this really the best way or are there other possibilities for more efficient and economic processes?

Based on a comprehensive comparison study, irregular and spherical silica materials have been investigated. The outcome is impressively clear: spherical materials have multiple advantages that lead to higher efficiency and sustainability – and therefore are the better and more cost-efficient choice:

• The column is packed only once  => labour costs are reduced
• Higher efficiency  => higher loadability  =>  increased productivity
• Cleaning-in-Place possible  => reusability of the column (more than 30 times)
